Physician, Vascular Surgeon (Part-Time)
Location: U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Amarillo VA Health Care System, Amarillo, TX.
This role is part-time and involves managing patient population with surgical conditions—assessments and medication management within the agency.
Base Pay Range
$300,000.00/yr - $375,000.00/yr

Qualifications
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Education: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA-approved school.
- License: Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or D.C.
- Residency Training: Completed residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification. (Includes ACGME or AOA accredited programs or non-US residencies with five years practice.)
- Physician Residents: Residents in accredited residency training programs who meet basic requirements may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs); must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
- PRPs are not independent practitioners and will not be privileged; they perform restricted duties under supervision.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred Experience: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Vascular Surgery.
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Vascular Surgeon.
- Current registration with DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration), BLS and ACLS Certification.
- Knowledge of CPRS/VistA.
- Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15‑44 lbs), carrying (15‑44 lbs), straight pulling for 1 hr, pulling hand over hand for 1 hr, pushing for 1 hr, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking 4‑6 hrs, standing 4‑6 hrs, kneeling 1 hr, repeated bending 1 hr, near & far vision correctable (13‑16”/20/20‑40), depth perception, color distinction.
Duties
- Perform vascular surgery involving diagnosis and treatment of conditions such as aneurysms, carotid artery disease, chronic venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis, peripheral artery disease, venous thrombosis, and varicose veins.
- Obtain medical histories and perform physical examinations.
- Provide and coordinate medical care for assigned patients in any care setting.
- Establish diagnoses, formulate and implement care plans, and provide follow‑up care.
- Order diagnostic studies (MRI, CT scans, etc.).
- Carry out health promotion, disease prevention, and patient education activities.
- Order laboratory specimens and ancillary services (pharmacy, social services, physical medicine and rehabilitation therapies, prosthetic services).
- Order VA specialty service consults and initiate requests for non‑VA medical care per VHA policies.
- Order patient care supplies and prescribe medications.
- Admit and discharge patients; perform admission history, physical examinations; conduct patient rounds; document progress notes; write patient orders.
- Obtain and document informed consent for treatments and procedures.
- Provide call coverage.
