Job Description
WSP is initiating a search for a Lead Senior Civil Engineer – Solid Waste Engineering in Texas, with locations in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas. This role leads project teams delivering services for civil and environmental engineering projects involving waste management facility design and permitting, stormwater management, landfill gas management, operations planning, and construction quality assurance. The position requires periodic overnight travel and fieldwork.

Managing and directing project design teams
Managing large projects in the Solid Waste sector
Preparing engineering design reports
Managing construction quality assurance programs
Pursuing and securing new project opportunities
Client and regulatory agency interaction
Preparing proposals
Mentoring junior staff
Providing proactive and strategic leadership for the civil engineering discipline
Leading complex civil engineering projects and coordinating budgets, timelines, and subcontractors
Negotiating contracts, presentations, and meetings
Supporting long‑term strategy and pipeline development for civil engineering work within the assigned area
Ensuring profitable project performance and successful completion
Continuously improving engineering discipline certifications and value proposition
Representing the discipline to external entities, including federal, state, local agencies, clients, subcontractors, and community entities
Developing proposals, scopes, timelines, pricing, and budgets in compliance with applicable codes and regulations
Interpreting and summarizing data to provide engineering and regulatory conclusions
Collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals to provide trusted advisor service and future‑ready solutions
Adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies
Performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Who You Are – Required Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related degree with valid Texas PE registration
10+ years of post‑education experience in civil engineering design
Experience in design and construction quality assurance for solid waste containment systems, permitting documents for solid waste facilities, landfill gas compliance and management, and master plans for solid waste facilities (experience in multiple areas preferred)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to work independently and within groups
Leadership experience and a positive attitude
Strong teamwork and client interaction skills
Engineer license required (multi‑state preferred)
Advanced technical computation skills and regulatory comparison
Leadership and interpersonal communication skills for all organizational levels
Analytical skills, attention to detail, and prioritization in a pressure environment
Capability to collaborate with senior management, clients, regulators, and staff across varying hierarchies
Track record of workplace safety compliance and abiding by WSP’s health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies
Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and business needs
Occasional overnight travel may be required
