Project/Unit Description
The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking software engineers to join the Threat Analysis Branch of the Cybersecurity, Information Protection, and Hardware Evaluation Research (CIPHER) Lab.
Job Duties
The Software Engineer will work closely with researchers to produce high quality software systems and tools to solve cybersecurity and/or intelligence analysis problems. These systems will work with very large datasets, require careful software design, and incorporate state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and other data analysis algorithms.
Job Purpose
The Cyber Security Software Engineer designs, develops, and tests cybersecurity software in languages such as Java, C, and C++. The role requires extensive knowledge of programming languages, software development, and computer operating systems to apply engineering principles to software creation. Skills include programming and coding, fundamentals of computer science, design and architecture, algorithms and data structures, information analysis, debugging, and testing. The engineer also creates novel cyber security technology components and ensures that critical systems and information are resilient to exploits and attacks, performs vulnerability assessments, and develops hardware and software prototypes for realistic testing.
Key Responsibilities
Perform software development, software testing/debugging, software modification/enhancement, and software documentation
Develop and maintain kernel and user-level software and scripts
Contribute to technical reports and presentations
Assist with performing software assurance scans with approved tools
Required Minimum Qualifications
Experience with at least two of the following: Java, Python, C
Thorough understanding of software development & design patterns and best practices; familiarity with development tools and workflows, including source control (e.g., git)
Experience with network analysis and/or security best practices and the network stack
Understanding of cybersecurity issues and/or intelligence analysis
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Machine Learning tools and techniques
Experience designing non‑trivial software tools, systems, and frameworks
Experience analyzing large datasets and adapting state‑of‑the‑art algorithms/techniques
Misc. Other Nice‑to‑Haves
Experience working with graph databases and graph algorithms
Malware analysis
Hands‑on network administration in an IT‑type role
Experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP)
Travel Requirements
10% travel
Education and Length of Experience
Level 1+2 – 0 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
Level 2+3 – 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or 0 years of related experience with a Masters’ degree in Computer Science.
U.S. Citizenship Requirements
Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.
Clearance Type Required
Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
