Salary: $22.58–$32.74 per hour (placement depends on experience, internal equity, and labor union agreement).

Description The Procedure Technician reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine (NM). The role adheres to NM’s Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program and all relevant policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation standards. The Procedure Tech supports nurses, physicians and other health‑care professionals in daily operations of the GI Endoscopy department, facilitating patient flow, room setup, turnover, equipment cleaning and supply management.

Responsibilities

Cares for the patient throughout treatment/procedure according to department and hospital standards.

Provides systems support by preparing procedure rooms for patients before arrival.

Assists in preparing the patient for exam/procedure (department specific).

Follows nurse directions to assist in performing exam/procedure on patients.

Participates in lifting and escorting patients through the department.

Assists in patient discharge as needed.

Assists the physician and nurse during procedures, including collecting specimens.

Prepares all necessary paperwork and information for procedures.

Verifies patient information for accuracy and completeness.

Monitors schedule to ensure effective patient flow throughout diagnostic areas.

Identifies and obtains necessary paperwork to start exams.

Handles and maintains department equipment and supplies to ensure operational flow.

Cleans and disinfects endoscopic equipment according to protocol.

Cleans and disinfects/sterilizes accessories used throughout the department.

Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisors.

Recognizes and reports problems to appropriate supervisors.

Additional Functions

Uses necessary departmental/hospital software applications.

Monitors stock of supplies in procedure/recovery rooms and reorders, rotates, and maintains a clean environment.

Uses designated equipment effectively, skillfully and efficiently.

Maintains equipment and work area as directed.

Restocks linen in recovery rooms, changes linens on patient carts, disposes of soiled linen.

Follows policies and procedures to contribute to department efficiency.

Organizes and prioritizes assigned work and schedules time to accommodate demands.

Applies comfort and safety measures (side rails, call lights).

Provides clerical/technical support as needed and as assigned by manager.

May be responsible for defined administrative/clerical duties to ensure patient throughput and report turnaround.

Qualifications Required:

High school diploma with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Effective, clear, medical‑professional communication with physician, nurse and patient.

Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills.

Knowledge of infection control in a hospital setting.

Ability to push, pull and lift 50 lbs.

Computer skills.

Preferred:

Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in life sciences.

Previous experience in a patient‑care environment.

Bilingual language skills.

Modality experience.

Completed SGNA Associates Program – Part I.
