Position Title: z/OS Systems Programmer
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid Onsite)

Position Description
We are seeking a highly experienced z/OS Systems Programmer to support a mission‑critical government environment. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, maintaining, and optimizing z/OS operating systems and related IBM mainframe software. This position plays a key role in supporting secure, high‑availability mainframe systems and collaborating with application, middleware, and security teams. Ideal candidates will bring deep expertise with z/OS, SMP/E, JES2/JES3, RACF, and modern mainframe operational practices, with exposure to WebSphere, Content Manager, HTTP/Apache, or related components considered a strong advantage. Core Responsibilities
Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade IBM z/OS and associated system software Perform system customization, tuning, and performance optimization Apply PTFs, APARs, and software upgrades using SMP/E Support and maintain core z/OS components, including JES2/JES3, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, and RACF or equivalent mainframe security tools Monitor system health, diagnose performance issues, and conduct root cause analysis Support high‑availability and disaster recovery initiatives Ensure compliance with government security standards, audit requirements, and change‑management policies Collaborate with application, middleware, operations, and cybersecurity teams Develop and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, system diagrams, and procedures Participate in scheduled on‑call rotation and after‑hours maintenance windows Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience 15+ years of z/OS Systems Programming experience Strong hands‑on knowledge of z/OS internals, system configuration, and PARMLIB SMP/E software maintenance and installation JCL, utilities, diagnostics, and debugging tools Experience supporting mission‑critical or regulated environments Familiarity with government IT controls, compliance standards, and structured change‑management Ability to work both independently and within cross‑functional engineering teams Excellent troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and documentation skills Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting federal, state, or defense agencies Knowledge of RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret mainframe security products Experience with capacity planning, performance tuning, and monitoring tools Familiarity with environments integrating mainframe and distributed systems Exposure to WebSphere Application Server, IBM Content Manager, HTTP/Apache, or IBM File Manager Prior experience in security‑cleared environments Security & Compliance Requirements
