We are seeking a highly skilled and research-driven Electrical Engineer (MS or PhD) with expertise in renewable energy generation, battery storage (engineering and revenue streams analysis), and hybrid energy modeling to join our team in Houston, TX, with consideration also given to Austin, TX; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Seattle, WA; Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; and Milwaukee, WI. The successful candidate will contribute to modeling, analysis, and optimization of microgrids, utility-scale renewable energy systems, and data centers, with emphasis on technical modeling, simulation, and coding to enable high-performance and resilient energy solutions. Responsibilities

Develop and validate simulation models for renewable energy systems including solar PV, wind, battery storage, hybrid microgrids, and data centers. Conduct power systems modeling for data centers, including UPS systems, generator integration, redundancy (e.g., N, N+1, 2N), and failure mode analysis. Perform data center reliability modeling using probabilistic techniques. Create Python-based tools for simulation, optimization, scenario analysis, and techno-economic evaluation of renewable and mission-critical power systems. Evaluate energy infrastructure integration for grid-connected and islanded modes in both utility and data center applications. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams including engineering and project management. Communicate technical results through clear documentation, reports, and stakeholder presentations. Support proposals, white papers, and strategic energy planning efforts. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, with specialization in power systems, energy systems, or data center infrastructure. 10+ years of relevant experience required. Proficient in Python for simulation, numerical modeling, and data processing. Experience with renewable energy integration, load flow analysis, power quality, and grid-tied inverter systems. Experience with dispatch modeling and revenue optimization of BESS systems in various ISO’s (ERCOT, CAISO, PJM, etc). Familiarity with industry-standard simulation tools: MATLAB/Simulink, ETAP, HOMER, or PSSE. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek. Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with mission-critical facility design, power redundancy modeling, or battery energy storage applications for data centers. Knowledge of optimization techniques, economic dispatch, or grid service monetization. Experience with real-time simulation or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing. Record of technical publications or presentations in energy systems or reliability modeling. Experience with Monte Carlo simulation and Markov chains. PhD in Electrical Engineering. Strong foundation in data center electrical architectures, UPS systems, reliability modeling, and energy backup strategies. WSP Benefits

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $115,100 - $205,040 WSP USA reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range and to offer additional benefits, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other protected status.
