Lead Medical Lab Scientist

Position Summary Processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens, reviews and reports lab results, performs operation, maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation, and acts as a resource to other laboratory personnel. Advanced responsibilities include equipment validation and implementation, employee training and competency assessment, regulatory compliance for CAP, TCJ, AABB, and other accrediting agencies, point of care testing, quality assurance, quality control, and instrument maintenance.

Responsibilities

Process and test laboratory specimens across all testing areas.

Review and report lab results accurately.

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation.

Serve as a resource to laboratory staff.

Validate and implement new equipment.

Train staff and assess competency.

Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (CAP, TCJ, AABB, etc.).

Perform point-of-care testing where applicable.

Maintain quality assurance and quality control procedures.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university or completion of an accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training defined by 42 CFR § 493.1489.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years as a medical technologist in an acute care facility with demonstrated increasing responsibilities.

Licensure/Certifications:

Registered or registry eligible with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT, CSMLS) within 12 months of hire. Equivalency evaluation by NACES or AICE for non‑US trained personnel within 30 days of hire; state licensure as required.
