Summary The Ambulatory RN 2 identifies patterns of patient responses and can use past experiences to implement solutions for current situations. The RN is a competent nurse who has mastered technical skills and utilizes evidence-based interventions. The RN continues to collaborate with other members of the health care team when the need for assistance is identified. The RN exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Required Job Qualifications

Current license and credentials by the state of assignment.

At least one year of nursing experience.

Earned Nursing Degree at the Baccalaureate level or higher for hires after Jan 1, 2014.

Transfer candidates must have a baccalaureate nursing degree prior to transfer.

Chief Nursing Officer approval for ADN RNs hired after Oct 22, 2020; must be enrolled toward BSN degree within 3 years of hire.

Current CPR certification.

Analytical ability.

Communication skills for teaching.

Ability to interact effectively in difficult situations.

Attention to document accuracy and data entry.

Specialty certification may be required within 12 months of hire.

Preferred Job Qualifications

National certification.

Physical Demands

Ability to walk throughout the medical center and stand for most of the shift.

Ability to lift or carry objects 35-40 lbs and position patients, some patients exceeding 300 lbs.

Work conditions include procedures with risk of injury or infection and exposure to strong chemicals.

Responsibilities

Establish caring therapeutic relationships with patients and families.

Implement individualized plans of care accommodating cultural, spiritual, and psychosocial factors.

Maintain professional relationships with the healthcare team.

Resolve conflict and improve team relationships.

Coordinate care using the nursing process and collaboration across services.

Utilize evidence-based ambulatory nursing interventions in clinical visits, phone encounters, and electronic communications.

Communicate current evidence-based strategies and protocols with peers.

Participate in quality initiatives and research.

Ensure safe medication administration and use of medical devices.

Apply teaching-learning to meet patient and family self-management needs.

Assess patient safety needs and implement strategies.

Respond to changes in patient status to optimize outcomes.

Identify patterns and problems in patient populations requiring evaluation.

Prioritize care for complex patients.

Apply holistic assessment skills to evaluate patients and families.

Facilitate communication for transition of care.

Accountable for professional practice and annual goals.

Consider resource utilization in care delivery.

Support clinic goals and change initiatives; participate in shared governance.

Collaborate with clinic personnel to optimize outcomes.

Provide education to staff and students in clinic.
