UC San Diego Health is hiring a (CNS) Clinical Nurse Specialist - Oncology. Magnet designation and a focus on adult oncology across care levels.
Overview The Clinical Nurse Specialist serves as a medical center-wide or system-wide clinical practice expert on current best practices in the management of the adult oncology patient within all levels of care.
Responsibilities
Serve as an expert resource across multiple nursing units to assist multidisciplinary teams with complex oncology and adult medicine cases.
Utilize expertise in oncology care (chemotherapy, immunotherapy, symptom management) to provide education, consultation, and develop evidence-based practice.
Coordinate antineoplastic therapy across units; maintain competence to administer antineoplastics.
Implement oncology development programs and ongoing learning needs of chemotherapy-competent nurses.
Collaborate on curriculum development and instruction for oncology classes for new hires; support staff in annual competencies.
Provide consultation and routine patient rounding for oncology patients and those receiving antineoplastics.
Develop oncology programs, processes, education resources, and policy/guideline updates for all levels of patient acuity and complexity.
Convene or lead interdisciplinary teams to address nursing practice issues; advise nursing leadership on quality outcomes, evidence-based practice, and efficiency.
Provide ongoing mentorship for staff professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) required for the CNS role.
CNS license issued by the state of California (required to be hired in CNS role).
BLS/CPR at time of hire with commitment to obtain BART within 6 months.
Seven (7+) years of recent and relevant oncology clinical experience.
ONS chemotherapy certification or agreement to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
Expert knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to convey complex information clearly.
Expert knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas; broad knowledge of multiple specialties.
Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments.
Ability to provide counsel on highly complex issues of functionality, clinical quality, efficiency, and program development.
Preferred Qualifications
Recent clinical experience in oncology.
5+ years of recent CNS experience.
Specialty nursing certification; experience with health equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Experience in an academic medical center; experience with presentations and publications.
Special Conditions
Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
