Prompt Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled Prompt Engineer to be at the forefront of our digital commerce innovations. This pivotal role involves designing, implementing, and optimizing cutting‑edge prompt engineering strategies while leveraging vector database technologies to enhance AI‑powered customer experiences. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field 3+ years of experience in prompt engineering and LLM optimization 3+ years working with vector databases and embedding technologies Strong knowledge of the eCommerce domain, digital metrics, and customer journey optimization Proficiency in Python and experience with AI/ML frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face Hands‑on experience with data engineering and MLOps practices Ability to conduct rigorous A/B testing and statistical analysis Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex AI concepts to non‑technical stakeholders Nice To Have Skills
Experience with semantic search and recommendation systems in retail/eCommerce Knowledge of embedding models such as OpenAI Ada, Sentence Transformers Familiarity with multiple vector database solutions like Pinecone, Weaviate, ChromaDB Understanding of prompt injection prevention and AI safety best practices Experience with fine‑tuning and PEFT techniques Knowledge of GraphQL/REST APIs for AI service integration Cloud platform experience, especially GCP Skills in responsible AI principles and bias mitigation strategies Preferred Education And Experience
Advanced degrees in relevant fields are a plus Extensive hands‑on experience in prompt engineering, vector database architecture, and AI system deployment Track record of developing scalable AI solutions within eCommerce or digital commerce contexts Other Requirements
This is a contract role through the end of the year, with high potential for extension or conversion Must be able to work in‑office in Chicago 4 days a week Willingness to collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, including product, business, and technical stakeholders Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously MissionStaff is an equal opportunity employer.
