Alternate Option: Non-technical bachelor’s degree or equivalent training/experience may substitute with 5 to 10+ years of IT systems engineering experience for DoD or Government Agencies and 3+ years supporting Afloat Network systems (CANES, ADNS, ISNS, CENTRIXS, SCI Networks, SUBLAN, and/or COMPOSE).

Overview Metronome is seeking a PMW 160 Futures Capabilities WAN Engineer to design, develop, and implement Navy network solutions supporting advanced modernization efforts. This position requires hands‑on expertise in SD‑WAN/SDN technologies, network automation, and the engineering of complex DoD systems. The ideal candidate will bring both technical depth and stakeholder engagement skills to drive the design and evolution of next‑generation Navy networks.
Key Responsibilities
Mid‑Senior level network engineer to support the design of Navy networks, including development of network topologies and templates from system requirements, development of network templates and IP plans, and development of test plans and documentation. Configuration and documentation of SDWAN solutions.
Configure, implement, and document SD‑WAN solutions.
Create detailed technical documentation, including test plans and network diagrams.
Troubleshoot and restore network/system outages within mission‑critical environments.
Leverage NetDevOps/DevSecOps practices to automate and scale engineering workflows.
Utilize Python, Ansible, NETCONF, RESTCONF, JSON, YAML, and Jinja for network automation and modeling.
Support and configure L2/L3 switches, routers, and network security appliances (firewalls, NIDS, NIPS, etc.). Collaborate with stakeholders across Navy programs, DoD, and federal agencies to ensure alignment with mission and architecture objectives.
Maintain and enhance virtualization technologies to support system and network operations.
Required Skills
6+ years of experience engineering IT systems for DoD or Government agencies.
3+ years developing and maintaining technical documentation.
Proven client‑facing communication and stakeholder relationship management skills.
Strong understanding of SDN/SD‑WAN technologies (VMware, NSX‑T, Cisco, Juniper, open-source).
Proficiency in network automation tools and scripting languages (Python, Ansible, NETCONF/RESTCONF).
Experience with network modeling using JSON, YAML, or Jinja.
Hands‑on configuration experience for enterprise‑level networks (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
Demonstrated success in network troubleshooting and restoration.
Working knowledge of virtualization technologies.
CCNP (or equivalent) certification required.
