Embedded Software Engineer – Apex Systems

Our client, Apex Systems, is seeking an outstanding software engineer to participate in all phases of software development from requirements through implementation and test to operations for critical satellite payload functions.
Key Job Responsibilities
Drive the design, development, and operation of a variety of key functions such as commanding, telemetry, power control, hardware interfaces, and autonomous capabilities for each satellite throughout its lifetime – from launch to de‑orbit.
Own unique software functions through design, implementation (in Python, C++, C# or other), test, and integration in a Linux or real‑time operating system (RTOS) environment.
Write software to interact with devices/electronics using I2C, I3C, SPI, RS‑422, RS‑485, Ethernet, etc. communications.
Follow best practices in high‑reliability software development to ensure high levels of reliability and availability.
Work with code delivery pipelines and automated build environments to provide seamless delivery & integration environment for customers.
Use Hardware‑In‑The‑Loop technologies and automated testing to provide scalable and repeatable test environments.
Engage with both internal and external customers to drive customer‑centric FW/SW release procedures.
Perform lab testing that involves mmWave products with RF silicon and phased arrays.
Basic Qualifications
Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
3+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
4+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
5+ years experience in delivering software in a production environment.
Experience developing embedded, real‑time software in Python, C, C++ required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in designing, developing and testing embedded software in C/C++ for high‑reliability applications (satellite avionics, mission critical systems, communication systems, industrial control, automotive, medical devices).
Knowledge/experience of board bring‑up, BSP development, OS/driver level software development and debugging.
Knowledge/experience with telecommunications, data communications (routers and switches), Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Layer 1 of the communications protocol stack, RF and antenna systems.
Experience deploying and sustaining embedded software in a high‑volume manufacturing environment.
Familiarity with software optimization for fast production test throughput.
