Position Summary Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develop and implement departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives.

Direct and evaluate departmental operations—including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management—to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

Plan and monitor staffing activities, including hiring, orientation, evaluation, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.

Prepare, monitor, and evaluate departmental budgets, ensuring the department operates within allocated funding.

Coordinate and direct internal and external audits.

Create and foster an environment that encourages professional growth.

Ensure the department remains focused on its important role in the continuum of care.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional Information Position serves both internal co‑workers and external customers, clients, patients, contractors, and vendors. Works with sensitive and confidential information. Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of healthcare regulatory and compliance (e.g., HIPAA) and is skilled in the application of policies and procedures. Knowledge of Business Office Standards and Recommended Practices is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manage the work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling, and reviewing work; ensure quality standards. Responsible for hiring, termination, training and development, performance review, and corrective action for staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Business Mathematical Skills – Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret graphs.

Moderate Computer Skills – Use electronic mail, word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, graphics, and create, maintain, and incorporate simple functions into documents, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations.

Complex Communication – Communicate complex information and interact with management; present, resolve, and address delicate situations; motivate and persuade others.

Varied Business Problems – Analyze and interpret varied and complex situations; solve problems using knowledge, skills, precedents, and practices.

Department Specific – Decisions impact management and operations within the department; contribute to business and operational decisions that affect the department.

Functional Independent Judgment – Set goals and priorities for functional area; recommend policies, practices, and programs; make decisions and resolve problems for others.

Project Planning/Organization – Handle multiple projects simultaneously, delegating tasks, overseeing projects, and allocating resources.

Physical And Mental Demands Occasionally stand, walk, sit for extended periods, use hands to handle objects, reach, climb stairs, balance, and lift up to 20 pounds. Repetitive upper‑body motion required for extended computer use. Requires good close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment And Travel Requirements Work in well‑lit, ventilated, climate‑controlled office environment with routine office equipment, and in hospital settings where hazards such as bloodborne pathogens, toxic chemicals, and biohazardous materials may be present. Noise level typical for office or hospital environment. Minimum overnight travel of up to 10% by land or air.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred; applicable work experience may replace education.
