Position Type: Full time

Hours per week: 32

Schedule: Rotating 13‑hour shifts (7 a.m.–8 p.m. or 7 p.m.–8 a.m.) with rotating weekends and holidays; may accommodate nocturnist or weekender preference.

Pay Range: $57.85 – $86.80 per hour

Overview Atrium Health is a leading community-focused academic healthcare system serving North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. We are inviting experienced Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners to join our APP team at Charlotte CMC Main, covering the Cardiac or Neuro ICU units.

Details of Practice and Qualified Candidate

One year of experience as an inpatient PA or Acute Care NP required.

Graduation from an accredited ACNP or PA program; post‑graduate ICU fellowship preferred.

Nurse practitioners must hold a master’s degree or doctorate in nursing practice.

Certification as an ACNP from a nationally recognized certifying body required.

Physician Assistants must hold certification from the National Commission on Certification of PAs.

North Carolina license, DEA, BLS and ACLS required.

Work schedule – rotating 13‑hour shifts with week‑end and holiday coverage (approx. 50% night shift).

Qualifications

Minimum one year inpatient PA or Acute Care NP experience.

Master’s degree or doctorate in nursing practice for nurse practitioners.

ACNP certification required.

PA certification from the National Commission on Certification of PAs required.

North Carolina license, DEA, BLS and ACLS required.

Responsibilities Primary responsibilities include providing critical care in Cardiac or Neuro ICU units with a rotating shift schedule. Specific duties include:

Initial and periodic medical history, physical examinations, and daily assessments.

Recording examinations, assessments, and plan of care.

Performing a wide range of surgical and/or medical procedures.

Writing appropriate prescriptions and administering medications.

Ordering and interpreting laboratory and radiology examinations.

Determining treatment plans for patients.

Documenting all patient encounters in a medically appropriate manner.

Acting as a patient advocate.

Participating in group/practice meetings and policy development when requested.

Physical Requirements

Walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.

Ability to lift and support up to 35 pounds.

Fluency in English and ability to communicate in understandable terms.

Intact sensory abilities and the ability to perform under stress.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Must have or be eligible for a DEA license.

Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of employment.

Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in SC required.

BLS required with expiration date >90 days from start.

Demonstrated critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and prioritization.

Job Summary Includes neonatal, critical care, emergency services and cardio‑thoracic surgery. Patient care involves intubated ventilated and/or hemodynamically unstable patients, high‑invasiveness procedures, and complex hemodynamic management.

Essential Functions

Cardiothoracic Surgery Setting (less than 5 years CVTS experience)

Manages STS Database data pre‑ and post‑operatively.

Performs clinic duties one day a week with assigned physician.

Provides weeknight call on a Q3 or Q4 rotation and weekend call responsibilities.
