$121,472.00 – $140,524.80 per year

Overview Under general supervision, incumbents operate, inspect, and maintain water treatment plant, well field, and distribution system equipment and facilities.
Water Plant Operator II is the second‑level trainee classification in the series. Individuals learn and perform treatment plant, well field, and distribution system operations, with an expectation to gain experience and demonstrate proficiency that qualifies them to promote to Water Plant Operator III. Upon successful completion of six (6) months as a Water Plant Operator II, the incumbent may be considered for promotion based on demonstrated ability and required certification.
Responsibilities
Operate equipment in water treatment plants, well fields, and distribution systems under general supervision.
Inspect and maintain plant equipment and facilities.
Assist in training and onboarding of new operators.
Maintain accurate operational logs and reports.
Respond to emergencies and hazardous conditions.
Minimum Qualifications
Either: the equivalent of one (1) year of full‑time experience involving the use of pumps, motors, and piping systems at facilities such as sewage works, refineries, food processing plants, large marine equipment installations, or similar facilities.
Or: the equivalent of one (1) year of full‑time experience operating a water treatment plant with a system capacity of 10 MGD.
Licensing and Other Requirements
Valid California driver’s license.
Valid Grade II (Grade III desirable) Water Treatment Operator Certificate issued by the California Department of Health Services.
Ability and willingness to work in various conditions, including outdoors in various weather, rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, emergencies, and around hazardous chemicals and equipment.
