Crossing Hurdles is partnering with a fast-growing AI-powered compliance & payroll automation platform used by rapidly scaling businesses across the US. The product automates payroll, tax registrations, filings, and multi-state compliance using intelligent agents, enabling teams to handle complex back-office workflows instantly and accurately. Operating in a high-scale fintech environment, the company is doubling its engineering team to support 10x product growth.
Compensation:
$140k–$230k base + equity
Location:
On-site, New York (Flatiron)
YOE:
1–6 years building backend-heavy, high-throughput transactional products (fintech/payments preferred)
About the role
Build highly reliable systems that process
billions of dollars , supporting payroll, compliance, and money-movement workflows.
Design, scale, and harden backend services and APIs across TypeScript/Node, AWS, and serverless environments.
Architect fault-tolerant infrastructure with a heavy focus on correctness, speed, and security.
Collaborate directly with the CTO and founding team on product architecture and tech-stack redesign.
Own end-to-end features across backend and product surfaces, shipping fast in an early-stage environment.
Work in-office with a tight, execution-focused engineering culture.
Requirements
1–6 years engineering experience with strong backend fundamentals (TypeScript/Node, distributed systems, APIs).
Proven ability to build production systems handling payments, transactions, or other high-volume data flows.
Solid experience with relational databases, data modeling, and performance optimization.
Hands-on exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS, serverless, CI/CD).
Startup-ready: thrives with ownership, speed, and minimal hand-holding.
Clear communicator who can articulate trade-offs, architecture decisions, and product impact.
