Position Overview The

R&D Strategic Sourcing Manager

(Procurement Manager) is responsible for leading the creation, execution, and management of comprehensive global sourcing strategies for specified R&D spend categories. This role will implement a strong procurement strategy, ensure team goals are met, and develop talent while authoring and managing procurement plans and strategic sourcing initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to understand procurement needs and identify strategic sourcing opportunities.

Educate and train internal teams on sourcing policies, processes, and systems.

Demonstrate expertise in R&D procurement categories and leverage industry knowledge to engage senior stakeholders in shaping sourcing strategies.

Develop and agree on category sourcing strategies for R&D spend with senior stakeholders.

Apply global procurement strategic relationship management best practices to enhance third‑party R&D services (alignment, compliance, escalations, performance, risk management, continuous improvement).

Deliver against performance goals including savings, cash flow, supplier diversity, and management monitoring.

Develop and implement systems and procedures aligned with corporate strategy to optimize procurement performance.

Collaborate with Legal and Finance to ensure compliance and efficiency.

Maximize adherence to corporate contracts and e‑catalogs; manage supplier relationships to track performance, reduce supply base, and improve compliance.

Lead sourcing initiatives including RFIs/RFQs/RFPs, supplier qualification, total cost analysis, contract negotiation, and supplier selection.

Support corporate‑level sourcing efforts and achieve cost savings targets.

Required Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or Business.

5–8 years of experience in procurement, sourcing, or related fields.

Strong understanding of pharmaceutical research and development processes.

Proven RFx experience in cross‑functional environments.

Demonstrated success delivering results in complex, global, decentralized environments.

Extensive experience managing cross‑functional teams and multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Education & Experience

Membership in a purchasing‑related professional organization.

Strong leadership with broad awareness of strategic sourcing best practices.

Self‑directed with ability to network and identify sourcing opportunities.

Strong project management and operational skills.

Experience managing internal and outsourced services.

High attention to detail; ability to manage multiple critical projects concurrently.

Skilled in negotiation and conflict resolution.

General knowledge of GMP and/or GCP.

Proficiency with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP) and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Project).

Flexible and adaptable to external influences; able to develop new strategies and tactics.

Strong collaboration and influencing skills in a matrixed global environment.

Excellent communication and presentation skills (oral and written).

Ability to lead through influence, leveraging expertise and relationships to drive business results.

General Requirements

5+ years of procurement or sourcing experience.

Life sciences industry experience required (pharmaceutical preferred).

R&D experience required (ideally clinical).

Strong analytical skills.
