Department Information Mechanical Maintenance

Job Summary Oversee all facets of University's daily mechanical operations. Ensure completion of mechanical maintenance tasks and projects at Georgia Southern University. Monitor activities and expenditures for compliance. Lead and manage Mechanical Operations teams. Ensure customer satisfaction across campus with the delivery of operation, maintenance and repair services.

Responsibilities

Establish priorities, evaluate the effectiveness of services provided, and perform inspections on work in progress and upon completion

Review department equipment needs, prepare reports on equipment status

Work with shop supervisors to determine and develop training needs and programs

Manage human resources of the department by assessing team needs and capabilities

Screen, interview, select and hire applicants for the department

Conduct performance evaluations, recommend promotions, and salary adjustments

Coordinate with Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction for contract repair and alteration services

Respond to emergency service requirements to minimize inconveniences for the campus community

Provide support for special events

Prepare annual report of department activities for the division Director

Monitor activities of contractors and contracts for compliance

Control costs and expenditures across University units

Required Qualifications Educational Requirements

Associate's Degree (additional years of experience may substitute for degree)

Required Experience

Seven (7) or more years of related work experience

Higher education facilities experience

Proposed Salary $60,617 - $77,306

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position

Ability to operate hand, precision, and power tools standard to the trade

Ability to operate heavy equipment and other service vehicles

Ability to read and comprehend blue prints, specifications and standards, and technical literature

Ability to analyze while multi‑tasking

Able to assess projects and communicate with multiple stakeholders on solutions

Perform measurement of mechanical devices and components

Manage projects to fit budget, deadline and timeline decisions

Proven success in project management

Report preparation experience

Stay current on relevant State and Federal Regulations

Knowledge

Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success

Skills

Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills

Clear and adept at reporting project status to involved parties

Adept at testing, modifying and re‑testing

Demonstrated collaborative problem‑solving, strong leadership, detail orientation skills
