This opportunity is for a Lead Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer in our multidisciplinary Process Infrastructure and Design team, based in Tempe, AZ, South Jordan, UT, or Houston, TX on a full-time basis.
Location Tempe, AZ; South Jordan, UT; or Houston, TX (depending on candidate preference).
Your Impact
Develop a variety of I&C design documents such as design drawings, technical specifications, and design basis calculations with a high level of competence and minimal oversight.
Demonstrate clear and prompt communication and foster leadership.
Work independently and in cross-discipline teams to meet project goals.
Ensure compliance with codes and standards, governing regulations, industry practices, and internal procedures.
Develop and perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and technical specifications.
Mentor junior team members in technical excellence and career growth.
Review instrument and control system vendor drawings and interface with suppliers, clients, and other disciplines.
Participate in development and design review of P&IDs.
Prepare and review control deliverables such as Control Narratives, Cause and Effect diagrams, System Architecture Diagrams, Instrument Location Layouts, Installation Details, Wiring & Interconnection Diagrams, PLC Layouts, and Loop Drawings.
Prepare and review instrument datasheets, I/O lists, instrument index, instrument selection, hazardous area classification.
Provide configuration and programming for controls equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, DCS, and SCADA systems.
Participate in client and project review meetings.
Prepare technical bid evaluations and attend FAT.
Collaborate with project management and engineering disciplines to develop project budgets, schedules, scoping documents, design criteria, and deliverables lists.
Promote engineering professionalism and maintain positive internal and external relationships.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
What You Are Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from ABET-accredited program.
7–10 years of relevant experience.
Advanced knowledge of Instrumentation Engineering.
Advanced knowledge of applicable design standards (API, NFPA, ISA, PIP, IEC, IEEE, ISO, NACE, NESC).
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.
Self-leadership, attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and provide guidance to junior team members with QA/QC adherence.
Strong written and verbal communication and people management skills.
Proficiency in SPI (Intools), AutoCAD, and other instrumentation design tools.
Solid understanding of control systems (PLC, DCS) and industrial networking protocols.
Ability to coordinate with others to obtain information and seek assistance as necessary.
Team player with the ability to work on multiple projects.
Strong problem-solving, data analysis, and decision-making skills.
Coordination and leadership of subcontractors to safely and efficiently complete tasks.
Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP health, safety, and harassment policies.
Ability to accommodate project-specific schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek.
Occasional travel may be required.
Must pass background check.
Desired Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (or related field) from ABET-accredited program.
Up-to-date NCEES record.
Design-Build project execution experience.
Lead the design and specification of field instrumentation, control valves, and analyzers for oil & gas, mining, heavy industries, water industries, and process facilities.
AutoCAD, Revit, and other design program competence.
