Senior Bridge/Structural Engineer

for our Tempe or Tucson office. Job Description Provides technical assistance and guidance for due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction infrastructure projects in the public sector. Tasks may include research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements such as bridges, signs, walls, and related transportation facilities. Generates accurate and concise reports, plans, specifications, and estimates. Ensures responsibilities are delivered with a quality that meets or exceeds industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality. Your Impact Perform tasks for technical assignments on projects, including helping develop schedules and objectives. Apply professional structural engineering techniques on a variety of assignments to prepare design calculations and load ratings for projects. Review submittals and shop drawings. Perform project-specific analyses. Prepare necessary plans, specifications, estimates, and technical memoranda for final design projects. Use technical knowledge to propose creative solutions and solve complex technical problems. Develop or incorporate advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality for end-users and transportation systems, with future-ready solutions aligned to design standards. Develop proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Lise 4D, LPile, OpenBridge Designer), technology, math principles, physics, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools. Understand project finances to monitor tasks and work within agreed budgets and schedules. Coordinate with the team and other disciplines to support client needs; participate in or lead structural or project-related meetings. Maintain quality control standards for measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting. Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects; provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner; stay current in structural engineering techniques and practices. Adhere to QA/QC and WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies; exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Who You Are Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline. 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior structural or civil design experience. Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) Certification having completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam. Experience with industry design standards such as AASHTO, ACI, AISC, ASCE, etc. Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and application to project work-related issues. Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including involvement in rehabilitation and new design projects. Working knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements. Ability to perform technical computations and calculations from plans and specifications and compare to regulations. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences. Demonstrated self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently and lead junior team or project members with strict QA/QC adherence. Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., Bentley products, LPile, LARSA, OpenBridge Designer, MathCad, Excel). Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge to data and testing results. Ability to direct others in the field to complete tasks safely and efficiently. Proven track record of workplace safety and adherence to WSP safety policies. Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond typical workweeks and occasional travel as required. Preferred Qualifications Master’s Degree in Engineering. Essential Professional Licensure/Certification (PE). Experience with ADOT and other Arizona local agency projects.
