Exhibitions and Public Engagement Manager, Department of Art and Art History
Georgetown University comprises two unique campuses in Washington, D.C. The Hilltop Campus is located in the historic Georgetown neighborhood, while the Capitol Campus is just minutes from the U.S. Capitol and U.S. Supreme Court. The Department of Art and Art History includes three gallery spaces, undergraduate majors in Studio Art and Art History, and a Master’s program in Art and Museum Studies.
Job Overview The Exhibitions and Public Engagement Manager works under the Director & Chief Curator to oversee all administrative, logistical, and programmatic aspects of the university’s art galleries. This full‑time position supports the planning and execution of exhibitions, public programs, and outreach initiatives while ensuring smooth operations across the Maria & Alberto de la Cruz Art Gallery and the two Lucille M. & Richard F.X. Spagnuolo Art Galleries.
Responsibilities
Provide administrative support to the Director & Chief Curator, supervising interns and student workers.
Coordinate all aspects of exhibition production, including loan and insurance paperwork, budget tracking, shipping logistics, installation and de‑installation oversight, and procurement of services and products from external vendors.
Coordinate advertising efforts for exhibitions and programs across traditional and digital platforms.
Plan and produce public programs such as lectures, panels, opening receptions, workshops, performances, class visits—including partnership with GU and K‑12 schools—and private functions such as advisory board meetings and space rentals, collaborating with university departments and outside stakeholders.
Manage artwork shipping, insurance, installation, facilities coordination, and interpretive materials to ensure the safe and effective presentation of artworks.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Arts Administration, Studio Art, or Museum Studies (MA preferred).
Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in exhibition planning, project management, or related museum/gallery work.
Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse constituencies.
Familiarity with global contemporary art trends, artists, institutions, dealers, service providers, and collectors; an existing professional network in these areas is preferred.
Proven ability to lead projects and work independently and as part of a team.
Experience planning and marketing public programs preferred.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, email marketing platforms, and social media platforms; Adobe Creative Suite and WordPress are preferred.
Availability for occasional evening and weekend programs.

Pay Range The projected salary range for this position is $21.16 – $35.29 per hour, determined by qualifications, experience, education, and other factors.
