Chief Nurse Anesthetist - CRNA - NYP/Queens
At New York‑Presbyterian Queens Hospital, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) deliver incredible care that is unseen anywhere else in the world. Our team of CRNAs provide patient‑centered anesthesia for all types of surgical procedures.
Join us as the Chief Nurse Anesthetist at our NYP/Queens hospital. In this role, you will manage the staff of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) and run the Student Nurse Anesthetist program. You will provide quality anesthesia and analgesia care to patients while under the medical supervision of an anesthesiologist in accordance with professional standards and established procedures. This position will have an active clinical presence based on operational need as well as allocated administrative time.
Responsibilities
Plan overall staffing levels with Weill Cornell Anesthesia and the Senior Director of Nurse Anesthesia. Ensure smooth, consistent deployment of CRNA staff, create and maintain staffing schedules using computerized software, post real‑time updates, and plan quarterly and monthly schedules. Manage requests for benefited time.
Recruit and make new hire decisions with input from HR recruiting and Anesthesia department leadership. Participate in the clinical interview process, conduct employee appraisals, make merit increase suggestions, provide ongoing critical feedback, and design and implement corrective action plans for staff. Implement progressive disciplinary actions and termination decisions when indicated with input from HR and the Senior Director of Nurse Anesthesia.
Approve timekeeping for staff before entry or within Kronos. Approve overtime, missed punches, and relay schedule information to the Anesthesiology timekeeper. Approve vacation requests, enforce policies regarding absences, and follow appropriate procedures to manage employee attendance.
Manage staff development. Ensure CRNA employee compliance with NYP and WCMC policies and procedures. Plan activities, recognitions, and training sessions to increase morale, professionalism, and cohesion among the employees and students. Obtain accreditation of departmental grand rounds through AANA for CME hours. Understand clinical interests of CRNA staff and relay information to faculty to maintain the daily OR schedule. Ensure smooth working relationships with OR personnel, faculty, residents, and other teams.
Oversee the educational programming and clinical rotations for Student Nurse Anesthetist training programs either directly or via delegation to a CRNA Clinical Coordinator. Act as liaison with participating CRNA programs.
Perform clinical responsibilities as needed.
Preferred Criteria
Must be highly collaborative and flexible in approach to leadership.
Required Criteria
At least 5 years of CRNA experience with demonstrated leadership and additional administrative management experience.
Current New York State RN license (or willingness to obtain).
Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
BCLS/ACLS/PALS certification.
Knowledge of scheduling software and personnel management.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
