In the course of a year, we provide more than 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks through Pre-K with high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities; provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age; and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities.**NATURE AND SCOPE:**Under the general direction of the Chief Experience Officer, the Director of Youth and Adult Sports will provide leadership for the development and operations of the sports programs for the Association. The Youth and Adult Sports Program Director will be responsible for implementing and delivering the Strategic Plan for sports, organization-wide standards, driving superior program quality and consistency throughout sports programs.
**RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):*** Ensure all sports programs enhance membership, increase program enrollments, and enhance the member/participant sport experience.* Direct oversight of funding that directly supports Association sports programs.* Provide a strong vision with innovation and a mindset that views the member experience through programs as the Y’s most important “product”.* Directly report to funders and provide supervision of major grants – state, federal and private.* Develop, implement, and scale signature Y sports programs across the Metro Atlanta association.* Develop and refine new youth and adult sports programming.* Collaborate with the Association Directors to grow and enhance branch level sports enrollment and engagement.* Develop and maintain partnerships with school districts, colleges, universities, organizations, and cities across the Metro Atlanta Association.* Develop, implement, and manage operating plans to promote program growth, program impact and safety for the YMCA.* Design practices, processes, and procedures for strong sport programming, including volunteers/coaches, referees/officials and development of new programming.* Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals and reviews and evaluate staff performance.* Measure progress against strategic goals and ensure continuous improvement.* Ensure that program standards are met, and safety procedures are followed.* Develop and control department budgets related to the position so that resources are developed to top priorities and strategic objectives.* Establish new activities and expand programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.* Foster a climate of innovation.* Collaborate with the Association key departments to lead, coordinate and support implementation of key initiatives related to marketing, social media and communications, human resources, and financial development.* Respond to all members and community inquiries and complaints promptly.* Conduct pilots for new programs; develop plans and manage best practices through engagement of the staff team.* Lead assigned aspects of the fund-raising campaign.* Support the Association’s multiple departments, branch staff teams, and leadership to sports cabinet.**REQUIREMENTS:*** Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience in programming directly related to child development, teen programming, elementary education, or related field OR high School diploma or GED and 6+ years of experience in programming related to child development, teen programming, elementary education, or related field* 2+ years of direct people management experience* 2+ years of experience with budgeting and financial management* Ability to effectively communicate and manage information to program participants, community leaders, volunteers and staff of all ages.* Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain relationships with all stakeholders.* Excellent attention to detail, follow-through, and execution on grant obligations.* Proficient knowledge of computers, various technology, and applications* Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, solve problem problems and possess effective time management skills.* Must be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training**PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:*** Bachelor’s degree required in child development, recreation, elementary education or related field* 6+yearsprogram and/or people management experience working in an education or childcare environment* Experience recruiting, cultivating, and supervising volunteers* 4+ years of program or non-profit experience* YMCA Team Leader certification* 4+ years of experience with both people AND program management experienceThis position requires sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
