Bioinformatics Analyst

Location: Boston, MA (Dana‑Farber Cancer Institute)

Responsibilities

  • Interpret complex biological information, performing tasks to reduce and consolidate output from software.
  • Prepare data for utilization by other scientists.
  • Monitor new data from public databases, find and load missed data, clean it to satisfy quality control criteria.
  • Query various sources for required information (Web, publications, internal DFCI resources).
  • Direct and guide DNA, RNA, and protein sequence database searches and computational analysis of resulting data.
  • Implement end‑user needs in database searching and integration.
  • Maintain computational infrastructure and control flow of samples and information for large‑scale studies.
  • Recognize and report problems with the data management process and fix them whenever possible.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MS preferred or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, or life sciences with 0–2 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with simple programming in Perl/Python or Java, C/C++, statistical programming in R, web development and database querying using SQL.
  • Familiarity with principles of experimental design and modern data analysis paradigms is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time‑management skills.

Salary Range

Determined by market pay structures and individual qualifications. $34,500 - $40,200 (CBA for union positions).
