As one of the Academic Deans, you will be charged with developing highly effective teachers to ensure our students master rigorous grade-level content and exceed their peers' performance at local, state, and national levels. An Academic Dean is responsible for driving student results through instructional coaching and the design and facilitation of high-quality professional development. The Dean conducts classroom observations, provides aligned feedback, and supports instructional planning through protocols like the Intellectual Prep Protocol and Data-Driven Practice Protocols. The Dean maintains a content data dashboard to measure performance targets and responds swiftly to emergent needs. As part of the leadership team, the Academic Dean fosters schoolwide culture, ensuring classrooms exemplify the mission and uphold a rigorous academic environment. The Dean models educator actions that influence culture and student outcomes, partners effectively with colleagues, and promotes inclusiveness, joy, and learning among leaders and teachers.
Required Qualifications:
At least three years of teaching experience in a tested subject
Valid Tennessee teaching license or the ability to convert one
School leadership or equivalent experience
Results on standardized tests, growth on rubrics, and data-driven instruction knowledge
Ability to hold adults accountable while maintaining relationships
Commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion
Confidence in creating, monitoring, and evaluating action plans
Ability to manage multiple priorities with a students-first mindset
Evidence of executing a strong departmental vision
Flexible availability outside school hours
Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
Outstanding lead teacher performance with exceeding student outcomes
Experience in family and community collaborations
Proven coaching results leading to student success
Experience designing and facilitating adult professional development
Valid teaching license
Responsibilities include:
Development and Management of People:
Monitor student culture data, including attendance, discipline, satisfaction, and communication
Build strong team partnerships through collaboration and feedback
Cultivate teacher longevity via coaching and support
Foster mission-connectedness, inclusiveness, joy, and learning
Hold adults accountable through crucial conversations
Support family and parent communication, including quarterly workshops
Conduct quarterly evaluations of staff
Professional Development:
Collaborate on designing and facilitating content-based professional development
Use feedback to improve sessions
Ensure opportunities for mastery demonstration
Align coaching and professional development supports
Model an inclusive, joyful adult learning culture
Instructional Coaching and Planning:
Manage outcomes for teachers and students, providing equity-driven coaching
Conduct weekly classroom observations, collect data, and give feedback
Support unit planning and assessment preparation
Analyze student work and assessment data weekly
Lead data meetings and build teacher data analysis capacity
Data-Driven Practice:
Analyze student work and assessment data regularly
Maintain content data dashboards
Communicate data insights clearly
Support teachers in data tracking and celebrating growth
Administrative Responsibilities:
Contribute to strategic improvement plans
Coordinate school events and logistics
Serve as liaison or proxy for the Principal
Attend after-school events and parent nights
Perform other duties as assigned
As the Academic Dean of Special Pops, you will coach ELL and ExEd teachers at the high school and collaborate with leadership to foster a positive school culture.
