About The Role
We are partnering with a groundbreaking biotech organization in its early clinical stages to identify a skilled and motivated DevOps Systems Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This role will play a pivotal part in maturing internal DevOps practices and supporting critical infrastructure as the company transitions from early‑stage operations into a more regulated, GMP‑compliant environment. The position is hybrid, with 3 days a week onsite in San Diego, and is ideal for someone who thrives in fast‑paced, high‑impact settings with opportunities to help shape infrastructure from the ground up.
Compensation
Salary: $120,000 – $128,000 (upon conversion)
Incentives: 10% target bonus, equity options, and a comprehensive benefits package
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and implement scalable AWS‑based infrastructure to support genomics, AI‑driven workflows, and scientific data pipelines.
- Improve and standardize code asset management practices, including repository structures and branching strategies.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub, Jenkins, and Ansible; introduce best practices to increase reliability and automation.
- Manage on‑prem and cloud hybrid environments, including Ubuntu/Linux and Windows systems, VMWare virtual machines, and AWS compute/storage services.
- Automate deployment of containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize performance across high‑performance computing (HPC) environments and large‑scale scientific datasets.
- Implement system monitoring, observability tools, and security protocols to ensure uptime and compliance industry standards.
- Provide hands‑on support and guidance to cross‑functional partners including bioinformatics, data science, and IT.
Candidate Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in DevOps and Systems Engineering roles, ideally within biotech or regulated environments.
- Proficient with Linux (Ubuntu) and Windows server environments.
- Strong knowledge of AWS infrastructure and cloud‑native architectures; experience with EC2, S3, load balancing, GPU environments, etc.
- Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), container orchestration, and configuration management tools.
- Demonstrated success in building CI/CD pipelines and managing source control using GitHub or similar platforms.
- Skilled in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or ELK.
- Experience with regulatory compliance and secure data practices is highly desirable.
- AWS or equivalent DevOps certifications are a plus.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in San Diego, with in‑office presence typically Tuesday through Thursday. The organization offers a collaborative environment with the opportunity to contribute to impactful scientific innovation.
