Vice President of Finance and Shared Services

The Carlisle Group has been retained to find a Vice President of Finance and Shared Services for one of the world’s best pre‑K through 12th grade private schools. The school, founded in 1909, has graduated 12,000+ students and enrolls approximately 2,200 students on a campus of 5,000 acres with 598 buildings. With 1,600+ employees, it is one of the largest and most well‑resourced educational institutions in the United States. The position is an in‑office role located in Hershey, PA.

Position Overview

The Vice President of Finance and Shared Services reports to the President and oversees all financial matters for the school. The role includes analyzing data and advising management to support strategic decisions, ensuring compliance with tax laws, regulations, and US GAAP, and managing shared services between K‑12 and Pre‑K organizations. The VP is a member of the Mission and Strategy Team, voting member of various committees, and serves as a liaison for key stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Accounting Services (20%)
    • Lead the fully integrated HRIS and Financial system, overseeing modifications, upgrades, and maintenance of the chart of accounts.
    • Supervise General Ledger and Financial Reporting: prepare financial reports, review fixed asset compliance, conduct audits, and produce analytical schedules.
    • Manage cash management and banking applications.
    • Ensure monthly accounting, government reporting, and payroll administration are accurate.
  2. Shared Services (20%)
    • Maintain the Shared Services Agreement, methodology, and Service Level Agreements.
    • Lead recurring shared services meetings, evaluate outcomes, and report to the Board of Directors.
    • Resolve conflicts and support operational excellence for both entities.
  3. Management of the Fully Integrated Business System (15%)
    • Ensure application compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations.
    • Recommend system enhancements, maintain chart fields, and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Validate internal controls and auditable records.
  4. Compliance (10%)
    • Ensure compliance in all financial and payroll matters.
    • Mitigate risk and oversee contract reviews for service‑related purchases.
  5. Cost Containment/Procurement (10%)
    • Oversee procurement department and support negotiation of goods and services.
    • Work with leaders to vet purchases per policy and identify savings opportunities.
  6. Financial/Strategic Planning (10%)
    • Lead long‑term financial planning for the operating budget.
    • Provide information for strategic decisions by leadership and the Board.
    • Uphold the co‑fiduciary role and Trust responsibilities.
  7. Budgeting (10%)
    • Collaborate with school leaders to develop, manage, and monitor the annual budget.
  8. Administrative Duties/Committee Membership (5%)
    • Serve on the Leadership Team, Capital Review Committee, Policy Committee, Compensation & Benefit Committee, ERISA Committee, ERP Executive Steering Team, CHS Capital, and Review Committee.
  9. Interactions with Others
    • Internal: K‑12 School Board of Managers, Pre‑K School Board of Directors.
    • External: Trust Company Manager, vendors, and colleagues.

Requirements

  • CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally in complex, multi‑entity organizations.
  • 7+ years of supervisory and leadership experience.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, influence, and collaborate across senior leadership and board levels.
  • Highly driven with strong business acumen and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Strong organizational, verbal and written communication, conflict resolution, and human relations skills.
  • Critical and strategic thinking skills; strategic financial planning experience required.
  • Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and maintain high integrity.
  • Passion for engaging with youth and supporting the school’s mission.
