Position Overview As a Civil Engineering Transportation Director, you will oversee the planning, design, and maintenance of a public or private organization's transportation infrastructure programs, such as roads, bridges, and transit systems. You will manage staff and budgets, develop capital improvement plans, ensure projects meet standards, collaborate with stakeholders, and handle business development and client relations.

Key Responsibilities

Direct a team of engineers and technical staff, conduct performance evaluations, and manage budgets and departmental operations.

Develop and implement long‑term plans for transportation systems, including capital improvement plans.

Oversee the design and delivery of complex transportation projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Provide technical guidance and act as the expert on transportation engineering principles, traffic control, and public roadway regulations.

Collaborate with external partners such as government agencies, metropolitan planning organizations, and community groups.

Lead efforts to secure new projects, develop proposals, and negotiate contracts, especially in the private sector.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering.

Minimum fifteen years of transportation engineering experience.

Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.

Work Environment & Physical Demands This hybrid job operates between an office environment and a field environment and routinely requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines. Work may require exposure to inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and bodies of water depending on project requirements. Physical demands include frequent sitting, moving, standing, talking, hearing, and occasional balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, grasping, and feeling. The job may occasionally require operating a company vehicle and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs.
