Senior/Staff Electrical Test and Validation Engineer

HEN Technologies is a deep‑tech company building the world’s first end‑to‑end intelligent fire suppression ecosystem, powered by AI, IoT, and advanced fluid dynamics. The company’s mission is to modernize how the world prevents and responds to fires by replacing outdated, manual systems with connected, data‑driven technology that is more water‑efficient and intelligently coordinated across every layer of the fireground. Backed by funding from venture capital investors, HEN Technologies is proving that the future of fire defense is intelligent, connected, and preventative. Location:

Full‑time Role Summary

HEN Technologies is seeking a

Senior Electrical Validation Engineer

to architect and execute V&V strategies across early prototypes (A‑sample) through production‑intent systems (C‑sample). You will validate pumps, valves, motor drivers, sensors, wired/wireless communication subsystems, and ruggedized mixed‑signal electronics designed for mission‑critical firefighting environments. What You’ll Do

Verification & Validation (V&V)

Define and evolve the V&V strategy across A → B → C sample builds, increasing depth and coverage as the product matures. Architect Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HIL) test systems for pumps, valves, sensors, motor drivers, power stages, and communication interfaces. Validate CAN, UART, RS‑485, SPI, and I²C communications under noise, transient disturbances, and environmental stress. Perform noise injection, transient disturbance, and fault‑injection to test resilience to brownouts, load dumps, motor EMI, and bus‑level interference. Characterize motor and valve driver behavior under stress conditions such as high stall torque, rapid cycling, and locked‑rotor events. Develop and maintain DVP&R documents covering pumps, valves, motors, sensors, wireless/wired comms, and embedded power electronics. Power Electronics Validation

Conduct electrical, thermal, and environmental validation of power subsystems including motor drivers, high‑current switching stages, and DC power distribution. Lead Power HIL testing, creating test conditions to simulate real‑world loads, current surges, voltage transients, and user‑induced faults. Define tests that target failure modes such as MOSFET degradation, gate‑driver stress, SOA violations, thermal runaway, and long‑term drift. Develop test strategies for validating DC power integrity, noise susceptibility, and recovery after transient events. Firmware HIL & Control Loop Validation

Design and maintain firmware HIL test benches for validating closed‑loop control of pumps, valves, motor drivers, and sensors. Develop HIL systems using dSPACE, Speedgoat, or embedded‑MCU–based platforms to simulate real‑time plant behavior. Supervise or automate regression HIL testing using ECU‑TEST or equivalent tools for continuous firmware validation. Validate firmware performance during noise injection, communication errors, sensor anomalies, and edge‑case conditions. Reliability & System Qualification

Work closely with the Mechanical Reliability Engineer, who leads mechanical test planning, to coordinate joint electrical + mechanical reliability strategies. Lead electrical reliability programs including ALT, Arrhenius‑based acceleration, long‑duration cycling, environmental stress, and voltage/current stress testing. Conduct root‑cause analysis to distinguish design failures, manufacturing defects, and test‑induced anomalies. Contribute to DFMEA by identifying electrical failure modes, detection methods, and mitigation strategies. Ensure electrical subsystems meet mission‑critical safety, durability, and performance requirements. Test Infrastructure & Data Systems

Design and build test jigs, fixtures, HIL rigs, wiring harness test setups, and sensor/actuator emulators for repeatable validation. Create automated test workflows that capture degradation trends in motor drives, power switches, CAN error rates, and wireless PER/RSSI. Maintain rigorous documentation including test plans, DVP&R, results, and corrective actions. Develop automated test workflows using Python, MATLAB, NI LabVIEW, or similar environments to control instrumentation, automate HIL tests, and collect structured data. Wireless & Wired Communications Validation

Wireless (LoRa & ESP32):

Characterize PER, RSSI, and SNR degradation during EMI exposure or pump/valve actuation. Validate communication reliability in humidity, smoke, fog, building interiors, and urban canyon environments. Ensure robust and safe OTA updates under poor connectivity and intermittent power. Measure long‑term RF component drift (oscillators, PA/LNA gain). Compare performance of external vs. PCB/sticker antennas.

Wired (CAN, UART, RS‑485):

Validate robustness under electrical noise, long harnesses, variable termination, and vibration. Inject faults such as dominant/recessive errors, bus shorts, or supply dips during transmission. Analyze arbitration, error counters, retransmission behavior, and recovery strategies. Evaluate noise coupling from high‑current motor drivers and pumps into low‑level comms and sensing circuits.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Provide early V&V input during schematic, layout, and architecture reviews. Partner with Mechanical Reliability on environmental, vibration, and thermal qualification. Collaborate with Firmware and Systems teams to validate control loops, sensing reliability, communications resilience, and recovery behavior. What You Bring
