Summary The Director of Community Relations is responsible for leading the strategic direction and execution of all community impact initiatives for BSE. This role manages a small but mighty team overseeing high-volume signature programs, philanthropic partnerships, player engagement, league‑mandated initiatives, and all community‑driven activations. The Director provides day‑to‑day leadership for the team, drives operational excellence, and ensures all efforts align with organizational goals, brand values, and measurable community impact. The Director, Community Relations will report to the Vice President, Community Relations.

What You Will Do

Work alongside the VP to develop the multi‑year community impact vision and annual strategic plan for BSE and its properties.

Set the departmental calendar, ensuring seamless alignment with season timelines, league initiatives, player availability, and key organizational priorities.

Serve as the daily operational leader of the department, ensuring programs are well‑planned, staffed and executed.

Oversee all community programs, including youth education, health & wellness, social justice, economic empowerment, and local community initiatives.

Lead high‑priority events (school takeovers, court refurbishments, holiday events, volunteer days, etc.).

Support or lead player‑driven initiatives, collaborating with Basketball Operations and management teams.

Ensure successful execution of NBA, WNBA, and league‑mandated community initiatives and reporting.

Work with Partnerships to integrate community components into partner activations and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Work collaboratively with PR, Marketing, Social, Digital, and Game Presentation to amplify community storytelling.

Directly manage Managers, Interns, and shared staff resources; set expectations, workflows, and priorities for the team while providing mentorship, coaching, and development opportunities to build future leaders.

Support the Brooklyn Nets & New York Liberty Foundation operations, including program alignment.

Oversee all donation request processes (in‑kind, ticket, monetary) and ensure equitable, mission‑driven distribution.

Ensure compliance with legal, league, and brand guidelines for all community activities.

Establish and maintain tracking tools to measure program reach, effectiveness, community feedback, and organizational impact.

Oversee preparation of monthly, seasonal and year‑end recaps for internal stakeholders, league offices, partners, and external stakeholders.

What You Will Bring

8–10 years of progressive experience in community relations, corporate social responsibility, social impact, or sports/entertainment.

Demonstrated experience leading teams, managing high‑stakes events, and working cross‑departmentally.

Ability to work nights/weekends as needed during the seasons.

Who You Are

Proven ability to balance oversight with hands‑on execution in fast‑paced, lean environments with high expectations.

Experience with player programs and navigating athlete‑facing dynamics preferred.

Able to successfully use data to guide decision‑making, resource allocation, and program evolution.

Compensation $100,000 - $125,000 base salary

Work Environment Works primarily in an office environment but will be expected to attend games and community events on evenings, weekends and holidays.
