Job Summary
The UCSF Department of Neurology seeks a candidate with excellent communication and financial research administration skills. The incumbent will manage complex financial portfolios to provide outstanding support for Principal Investigators (PIs). Responsibilities include independently managing research awards and transactions related to contract and grant management, preparing reports for approval by managers and Authorized Organizational Representatives, and overseeing portfolios that may include multiple‑PI awards, program project grants, and awards with multiple subcontracts to domestic and foreign institutions. Candidates must analyze revenue and expenses against budgets, develop projections, and produce financial reports to manage projects strategically and in compliance with all applicable guidelines.
Salary & Benefits
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range will depend on work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the collective bargaining agreement. Department Description
The mission of the Department of Neurology at UCSF is to deliver superb patient care, apply state‑of‑the‑art translational research methods to discover causes of and treatments for human nervous system disorders, and educate each generation of medical students, neurology residents, and postdoctoral fellows. By fostering cross‑disciplinary interactions among scientists worldwide, it accelerates discovery and champions the University’s global health initiatives. The department is the second‑largest at UCSF, with an annual operating budget exceeding $150M, and is the number one recipient of NIH funds among neurology departments of U.S. medical schools.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 5 or more years of progressive relevant experience.
- Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills.
- Knowledge of administrative operational activities such as event planning, fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
- Solid knowledge of common university‑specific computer application programs.
- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong skills in short‑term planning, analysis, problem‑solving, and customer service.
- Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of university rules and regulations, processes, protocols, and procedures for budget, accounting, and fund management, and/or personnel management.
- Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and/or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
- Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
