Job Overview

The Social Media Manager will raise awareness of Common Sense Media’s brand by developing and implementing comprehensive social media strategies and content, and engaging with target audiences and partners. This proactive, creative, mission‑driven role thrives in a high‑paced nonprofit environment.

Location: San Francisco, California
Reports To: Brand Marketing Director
Salary: $85,600–$101,650 per year
Type: Full‑time, exempt

What You’ll Do

  • Content Strategy & Development
    • Develop and execute social media strategies across official accounts on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, and YouTube.
    • Support content posting on LinkedIn, Twitter/X, and sub‑channels such as the @commonsenseedu Instagram.
    • Establish and manage the social media content calendar and production process aligned with organizational priorities.
    • Capture and surface trending topics relevant to our work.
    • Manage cross‑functional relationships for campaigns and product launches.
    • Translate long‑form research and editorial content into platform‑specific messaging.
  • Growth & Community
    • Build and maintain relationships with influencers, brand advocates, and industry partners.
    • Develop and execute organic paid boosting strategy and manage nonprofit ad grants.
    • Monitor and manage platform communities, responding to comments and direct messages.
  • Measurement & Iteration
    • Track and analyze performance metrics and platform trends, providing reports and optimization recommendations.
    • Identify areas for improvement and report on adaptation of strategies.
  • Proactively surface and manage external support needs to fulfill overall social media requirements.

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–7 years of experience in digital marketing or social media management.
  • Deep understanding of social media platforms and algorithms.
  • Proficiency with Meltwater, Figma, and other design platforms.
  • Experience with simple video editing (plus).
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Asana, and internal collaboration tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in social media analytics tools.
  • Experience with paid advertising on social media platforms (plus).
  • Creative thinker passionate about innovation and industry trends.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Team‑player able to collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
  • Passion for our mission and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Spanish proficiency is a plus.
  • Experience with advocacy efforts and campaigns is a plus.
