Skullcandy is seeking a creative and innovative Industrial Designer II to join our fast-paced Product Development team. This person will be at the front of the product development process, focused on creating best in-class products and industry leading user-experience design. This Industrial Designer II will be responsible for leading projects from conceptualization through mass production. This person must be a passionate and driven performer who stands out as an advanced and proficient industrial designer. Candidate must present an impactful portfolio displaying process, innovative thinking and creative problem solving.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Act as the industrial design lead for various consumer headphone, earbud, and speaker projects.
Responsible for demonstrating insightful "blue sky" conceptual thinking.
Partner with Product Development Project Managers on design schedules from initial development through mass production.
Create and deliver directional and user-experience stories through dynamic visual communication.
Work closely with internal Sourcing team on costing and materials requirements for project components.
Create 3D Geometry for concept validation through prototyping and visuals; problem solve through any component limitations due to cost restrictions.
Integrate seamlessly with PD Engineering teams to effectively maintain design intent.
Partner with Engineers in delivery of "looks like, works like" prototypes on tight timelines.
Coordinate with Quality team to ensure testing requirements are met for projects.
Communicate directly with manufacturing team in China to support execution of projects.
Participate in brainstorming sessions and communicate conceptual ideas and design rationale, both verbally and visually.
Multi-task and produce exceptional work under tight deadlines; maintain updated project schedule; track and manage projects under review.
Understand global trends, technology, and fashion.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors in Industrial Design strongly preferred.
2 - 4 years of industrial design experience; experience on an in-house ID team preferred
Consumer electronics design experience; experience with injection molding strongly preferred.
Demonstrated CAD proficiency with an emphasis on advanced surfacing. Solidworks or Rhino preferred.
Proven concept validation through rapid prototyping and 3D rendering.
Proficiency in Illustrator and Photoshop.
Proficiency with sketch modeling tools like Blender or SubD modeling would be valued.
Tenacious commitment to producing high quality work and following each detail through to production
Well-rounded knowledge and understanding of manufacturing materials and processes.
Self-motivated and independent thinker with strong communication skills.
Must be able to work with cross functional teams across the globe.
Quick and dynamic sketching style.
Insightful observation skills targeted at the core consumers lifestyle in the past, present and future.
Must have strong organizational and multitasking experience.
