Research Services Lead

Location: San Francisco, CA

Join Latham & Watkins as a Research Services Lead. This role will conduct and lead a wide range of legal and non‑legal research and analysis for attorneys and business services staff, facilitate skills development, and coach junior members of the Research Services team.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct complex legal and non‑legal research, manage large projects, and synthesize and analyze results for relevancy and responsiveness to the specific research request.
  • Monitor business, industry, and legal news sources for developments regarding clients, industries, and practice areas; utilize aggregator platforms to assemble relevant results for distribution to attorneys and business services staff.
  • Lead department training and awareness activities.
  • Share knowledge and experience with colleagues, facilitate research services staff professional growth, and lead monthly departmental calls.
  • Promote effective work practices, work as a team member, and show respect for co‑workers.
  • Protect and maintain highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains.

Qualifications we are looking for:

  • Expert legal and non‑legal research knowledge and skills, including experience with legal and transactional platforms such as Westlaw, Lexis, CapitalIQ, and Pitchbook.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effective department training for attorneys, departmental colleagues, and other business services staff.
  • Superior communication skills and the ability to work as a team player, manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent; master’s degree or J.D. preferred.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience; a minimum of seven (7) years of cumulative experience preferred.
