Under general supervision of the Trauma Program Manager, the Quality Improvement HC Specialist 3 is responsible for reviewing and documenting trauma patient demographic and clinical information and entering it into the Trauma Registry database. The role involves ICD‑10 coding of diagnosis and use of the Abbreviated Injury Scale, and identifies basic performance‑improvement issues.

Applies physiological, anatomical, and trauma clinical theory to abstract and analyze each trauma case. Develops and presents basic trauma educational courses for IMU/floor nurses caring for trauma patients, acts as a resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned, and promotes compliance and support for policies.

This position is mostly computer work and not direct patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in nursing or other healthcare profession; or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience.

Three (3) years of relevant experience.

Proven ability to apply physiological, anatomical, and trauma clinical theory to abstract and analyze each trauma case.

Experience and proven success in QI standards, clinical chart review and abstraction, and regulatory requirements.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work within a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

BLS/BART certification.

AIS coding course.

Trauma Registry course.

Proficiency in ICD‑10 coding.

RN experience in acute care of the critical trauma multi‑system injured patient.

Special Conditions

Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
