About The Opportunity A top-tier mechanical contractor with a strong engineering foundation is expanding its Preconstruction team and seeking a forward-thinking Director of Preconstruction. This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who excels in early-phase project development, strategic decision-making, and guiding clients through the mechanical design and budgeting process.
You’ll lead the front end of complex mechanical projects - commercial, industrial, healthcare, higher ed, and mission-critical - while working closely with internal design teams, fabrication groups, and key project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic leadership for all mechanical preconstruction efforts across HVAC, piping, plumbing, and specialty systems
Develop conceptual estimates, cost models, and budget strategies for large-scale projects
Manage scope definition, bid packaging, vendor engagement, and value engineering initiatives
Oversee preconstruction workflow, tools, processes, and team development
Collaborate closely with internal engineering, BIM/VDC, and fabrication teams to ensure design efficiency and constructability
Serve as a trusted advisor to owners, architects, engineers, and general contractors
Deliver accurate, timely, and competitive proposals that support operational excellence and successful project awards
Lead presentations, interviews, and client-facing communication for major pursuits
Qualifications
8+ years of mechanical preconstruction, estimating, or project planning experience (design-build/design-assist preferred)
Strong technical background in HVAC and piping systems, with the ability to drive design decisions early
Experience leading teams, processes, and client relationships
Proven success developing conceptual budgets for large, complex projects
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and guide project direction
High proficiency with preconstruction software, BIM coordination workflows, and mechanical system cost modeling
