Associate Director, Residence Life – Colorado School of Mines Join the Colorado School of Mines as an Associate Director, Residence Life, where you will provide leadership for all programs related to residence life, student development, and residential education.

Base Pay Range $81,000.00/yr – $85,000.00/yr

Role Overview In this dynamic role you will implement the strategic vision for student development programs in all residential communities, support policy and procedural development, and serve as a leader within the Division of Student Life. The Associate Director will have authority to act as the Director of Residence Life in their absence.

Responsibilities

Assist in establishing and implementing short‑ and long‑range department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; assess program effectiveness and recommend improvements.

Serve on the Residence Life Leadership Team, supporting the mission of over 20 full‑time employees and housing more than 3,700 students.

Assist the Director in resource allocation for physical improvements and programming budgets based on resident and program needs.

Manage the budget for Residential Education, including student programming funds, Campus Living Student Association, Signature Learning Community, and staff training.

Represent the university on institutional committees and externally to students and the local community.

Oversee compliance with Clery reporting, development of training materials, and marketing for Residence Life programs.

Use software systems (Maxient, StarRez, eRezLife, Canvas, Workday) to track conduct and engagement.

Lead annual review and updates of resident behavior policies published in the Resident Handbook.

Supervise hiring, training, and evaluation of Assistant Directors and other staff, including Resident Advisors, Coordinators, and Desk Staff.

Oversee student development efforts in residential communities, handle emergency and crisis situations, and participate in on‑call duty rotations.

Maintain strong relationships with campus stakeholders and collaborate on university‑wide student development initiatives.

Participate in orientation programs, campus specialty weekends, and support students experiencing academic or personal difficulties.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, or related field from an accredited institution.

At least four years of progressively responsible experience in a comprehensive residence life system at a higher education institution.

Minimum of one year supervising and leading professional and student staff.

Experience re‑engineering operations, formulating policy, and implementing new strategies and procedures.

Proficiency with housing software systems (StarRez, eRezLife, Maxient, Canvas, Workday).

Experience fostering a positive, collaborative work environment with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.

Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and ability to respond calmly in emergencies.

Salary and Benefits $81,000 – $85,000 annual salary
