Staff Electrical Designer – Atlanta, GA Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Electrical Designer to design various electrical projects, including electrical schematics, grid plan layouts, electrical power systems, lighting systems, protection and controls, and site & facility design. The designer will follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards, plan and develop drawings for production work, analyze reports, drawings and tests, interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications, review design drawings for quality assurance within scope, budget and schedule, and compute volume calculations for conduit/grounding layouts, equipment & panel wiring diagrams and relay panel schematics.

Responsibilities also include executing design assignments with prescribed methods, refining rough sketches, publishing changes to designs or sketches, and maintaining all revisions of project drawings, plot files and project‑related information in a logical, well‑structured manner. The role requires clear and concise written and verbal communication for client & site coordination, with primarily domestic travel up to 5% of the time and up to 30 days of telecommuting per year. Multiple positions available.

Qualifications Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting Technology, or a directly related field plus five (5) years of experience supporting mechanical or electrical engineering design. Alternatively, the employer will accept seven (7) years of experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.

Must Have, At Minimum, The Following Experience

Five (5) years using CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation) and Excel to develop design deliverables.

Five (5) years using 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.

Five (5) years performing quality review of design deliverables, including knowledge of client & industry standards.

Three (3) years performing on‑site field surveys of existing facilities, using 3D reality‑capture tools.

Three (3) years post‑processing field‑collected 3D data into models, usable as inputs to 3D engineering design.

Three (3) years project execution planning and project management support.

One (1) year designing mechanical/electric systems and performing associated calculations.

One (1) year preparing data & analysis for cost estimation or bidding.
