Position Summary:
Utilizing clinical social work techniques and theory, consults on, assesses, and intervenes with high-risk patients and their families regarding the impact and amelioration of emotional and social problems. Duties include conducting psychosocial assessments, diagnosing, planning and implementing effective treatments, evaluating, educating, supervising, coaching and mentoring patients and family members. Provides clinical supervision to staff seeking independent licensure, assigns and oversees work, assists staff with complex cases, and manages the internship program.
Schedule:
24 hours daily (including Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.); one holiday per year required; weekend incentive offered.
Essential Responsibilities
Assesses patients and families to ascertain emotional and social problems using the department’s psychosocial assessment tool.
Identifies and prioritizes issues, formulates a care plan, and reports any suspected abuse or neglect.
Consults and collaborates with the healthcare team to address patients’ emotional and social needs.
Provides psychotherapeutic treatment and psychosocial support to patients and families to reduce impact of identified problems.
Maintains patient confidentiality and documents encounters in the medical record and department clinical record.
Submits department statistics and other required reports in a timely manner.
Attends scheduled staff meetings and in-service education programming with punctuality and consistency.
Obtains continuing education units necessary to maintain licensure.
Supervises MSW and BSW students (per assignment) and provides clinical supervision to Licensed Clinical Social Workers as assigned.
Manages the internship program, including paperwork, contracts, training program, and evaluation.
Supports and/or coordinates new program developments or services related to the mission of Boston Medical Center.
Provides task supervision, leadership, and support to staff as assigned; leads one or more committees as appointed.
Other Duties
Performs other duties as needed.
Follows hospital infection control and safety procedures.
Utilizes hospital behavioral standards to facilitate the hospital’s mission.
Education & Credentials Requires a Master’s Degree from an accredited School of Social Work.
Requires a Massachusetts Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.
Knowledge & Skills
Proficient knowledge of the Social Work process and community resources and agencies related to health, illness, and disability.
Advanced interpersonal skills to interact effectively with healthcare professionals, develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients and families, and supervise graduate students.
Comfortable in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of racial and ethnic populations.
Bicultural or bilingual competency (a plus).
Compensation Range $42.60 – $51.92 per hour. Includes benefits such as medical, dental, vision, pharmacy, flexible spending accounts, 403(b) savings matches, paid time off, and resources to support employee and family wellbeing.
