Job Skills / Requirements Unarmed SPOs shall perform all tasks in accordance with the duties outlined within the Post Orders, which are prepared by the Office of Safety and Security for all shifts on each post. Some of the duties include but are not limited to:
Access Control Package
Screening (X‑Ray Machine)
Personnel screening (Hand Wands / Magnetometers)
Traffic Control Visitor Processing Vehicle inspection
Communications and dispatching Patrol Operations
Emergency and event response
Correctly attired in uniform, equipment, and grooming
Emergency Care May Include, But Is Not Limited To
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including the use of automatic external defibrillators (AEDs)
Provide pre‑hospital emergency medical care of simple and multiple system trauma
Bandaging wounds
Treatment of shock
Additional care is provided based upon the assessment of a patient and obtaining historical information.
Qualifications
Possess a high school diploma or equivalency; however, collegiate academic course work or an AA/AS degree is preferable
Minimum of 1 year of experience in law enforcement, security or a combination of both
Minimum of 1 year experience as a National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) certified EMT
Current SPO (Unarmed) license issued by the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) Security Officers Management Branch (SOMB)
Carry and maintain a NREMT EMT Certification and an American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider
CPR Certification (or equivalent)
Carry a current “Advanced First Aid” card issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent
Pass suitability determination
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Training
Training Requirements All SPOs must complete the training requirements and pass the required written examination.
All SPOs Must Take The Following Training
Security Post Orders
Emergency Evacuation Procedures
Code Bravo
Watch Tour Procedures Certification
Requirements (All)
Unarmed SPO License issued by the District of Columbia and SOMB
Advanced First Aid Card issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent
NREMT EMT Certification and an American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider CPR Certification (or equivalent)
