Anesthesia Technician – Medical Center East (PRN)
Location: 3920 Dutchman Lane, Louisville, KY 40207
Shift: Rotating (United States of America)
Shift length: 8–12 hours (3–5 shifts per week). Overtime required – often.
Job Description Summary The Anesthesia Technician assists the anesthesia provider in the acquisition, preparation, and application of anesthesia equipment, supplies, and drugs necessary for safe anesthesia administration. They support routine and complex surgical and non‑surgical cases, assist in patient monitoring, anesthesia delivery systems, and maintenance before, during, and after cases. They perform certain diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, inspect inventory, clean and stock rooms, and ensure drugs and supplies are current. The technician handles drips, A‑lines, central lines, and sterile procedures such as gowning, gloving, and line placement. They aid in patient positioning, intubation and extubation, and transport patients to recovery.
Essential Functions
Directs ordering anesthesia supplies and prepares anesthesia equipment and supplies for the operating rooms
Assists in maintaining equipment in proper working order, cleans and returns cleaned equipment to its proper place and stocks surgical rooms
Assists anesthesia provider and promptly responds to pages for anesthesia turnover between cases
Responds to alarm systems to assist with troubleshooting equipment
Assists with patient pick up and blood product pick‑up and runs ABG’s/blood glucose under the direction of an anesthesia provider
Other Functions
Keeps anesthesia workroom neat and orderly
Checks other areas including the PACU, ACU, ICU, and CCU for monitoring devices for patient transfer and returns them to the surgery unit
Applies aseptic technique and knowledge in the spiking of IVs, A‑lines or other invasive lines
Correctly labels, dates, and applies initials to pre‑set lines
Efficiently cleans and utilizes anesthesia instruments and equipment
Performs or assists with the emergency procedure for malignant hyperthermia, as necessary
Assists with vendor trials, work orders, and equipment quotes
Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
Performs other duties as assigned
