Senior Design Engineer (ENG5113) Exempt:

General Description A Senior Design Engineer performs complex activities in the design, layout, testing, and evaluation of technical products. Acts as a technical liaison providing troubleshooting and technical support for projects related to the development of new products and designs. As an experienced professional, this person provides updates with a full understanding of the area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways and works through problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

Requirements

BS degree in engineering design

5+ years of experience in mechanical design

AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, Inventor, Pro Engineer, Solid Works experience required

In‑depth knowledge of design engineering, geometric tolerances, packaging design, and tool preparation

Experience with Kyocera’s proprietary methodologies and products preferred

Advanced understanding of customer and supplier processing

Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal to interface with outside vendors and generate presentations for internal and external customers

Eligibility to work in an ITAR environment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs complex product development activities including drawing, board layout, and interpretation of customer specifications and documentation requirements.

Provides existing product line support in design activities and/or modification of hardware in production.

Conducts engineering studies and may assign work to technical drafting staff.

Communicates with production and sales engineers concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods; develops new designs that are cost‑effective and meet timeline requirements.

Provides leadership in implementing changes to eliminate packaging‑related failures.

Provides regular status reports on packaging development projects and process improvement activities.

Evaluates, recommends, and implements process improvements for packaging methods with lean manufacturing principles.

Generates own specific goals and prioritizes workload so those actions align with department goals.

Responsible for providing guidance and training to lower‑level engineers and designers and checking/approving their work.

Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

Physical Activities Continuously required to talk or hear; regularly required to stand, walk, sit; occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Must occasionally lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Environmental Conditions Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. Noise level usually moderate.
