$89,000 to $115,356 per year

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Chief Radiation Medicine Technologist and under general supervision, delivers accurate dosages of radiation using up-to-date equipment and documents same in order to fulfill the prescription given by the physician and provide quality patient care.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION Requires knowledge of Radiation Medicine generally acquired through completion of an Associate’s Degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
EXPERIENCE Requires knowledge of department policies and procedures, familiarity with equipment, and proper set-up of equipment normally acquired through three to six months on-the-job training.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS Requires analytical ability to determine proper set-up of equipment and patient, calculate length of treatment, and detect adverse reactions to treatments.
Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to work with others and deal effectively with patients.

KEY SPECIALIZED RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare, position, and immobilize patients for radiation therapy using precise techniques
Review treatment charts, prescriptions, and prescribed dose before each session
Set up and operate radiation therapy equipment; place blocks/wedges as needed
Administer prescribed radiation dosages and monitor patients via intercom/TV system
Assess patient reactions (e.g., skin changes, nausea) and determine when physician review is needed
Verify blood counts and port films weekly
Calculate surface, depth, cumulative, and total radiation doses when Physicist is unavailable
Assist Physicist with contours, measurements, and verification of treatment plans
Document exact dosages and create/update diagrams of treatment fields in the patient chart
Inspect and verify equipment safety interlocks
Monitor equipment performance and report malfunctions
Stay current with radiation therapy trends and technical developments
