The Opportunity As the manager of the Database Infra team, you will shape the future of data at Box, optimizing our cloud-based database infrastructure for scale and performance. Working closely with the database platform team and the database access service layer, you will lead the team to develop advanced automation solutions, drive continuous improvement, and deliver long‑term value.
What You’ll Do
Work with the team tech leads to define the future of Box DB Infra architecture in the cloud and evolve our systems toward it.
Guide team members as they design novel approaches to addressing scale and performance challenges associated with exponentially increasing usage of our data tier.
Build a cohesive team with a strong sense of ownership and a culture of fast execution while consistently maintaining a high standard of quality.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and increased automation to optimize efficiency, reduce toil, and deliver long‑term value.
Develop objectives and key results to meet business goals, and drive the team to deliver against them.
Guide the professional growth of engineers, providing relevant and timely career guidance and feedback.
Manage and coordinate the team’s on‑call rotation to ensure timely and effective incident response, actively participate in escalated on‑call incidents to provide leadership and support, and drive improvements by addressing recurring issues to minimize disruptions.
Who You Are
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
5+ years of experience working with distributed systems.
2+ years of leading engineering teams.
Strong understanding of common algorithms, data structures, and code design principles.
Strong grasp of high‑scale distributed systems.
Passionate about database scale and performance challenges.
Strong sense of ownership, persistence, and drive, strong communication.
Can drive technical discussions and develop their own intuition and point of view about technical challenges facing the team.

Pay Transparency United States Pay Range $211,000 – $263,500 USD

Benefits Actual base salary (or OTE if commissionable role) is dependent upon factors such as knowledge, skill level, experience, and work location.
