Systems Software Engineer Location: Santa Clara, CA

Job Term: Full‑time

The Opportunity Picarro is building the next generation of integrated solutions that incorporate various analytical instrumentation, such as our state‑of‑the‑art laser‑based gas sensors. These systems are adapted for numerous different industries to deliver trusted, actionable data to end users, allowing them to make critical operational decisions in their facilities based on unambiguous information that we provide.

We seek passionate Systems Software Engineers to conceptualize, design, develop, document, and maintain software solutions. The responsibilities of this position includes developing high quality, maintainable software, as well as participating in all aspects of the solution from conception to deployment. Responsibilities

Collaborate with other developers to create high‑quality, clean, efficient, and maintainable microservice applications for complex analytical instrumentation, following best practices and coding standards

Collaborate with other software developers to create, maintain, and develop test cases for various applications deployed in a Linux‑based target environment

Troubleshoot and debug software defects and production issues, providing timely resolutions and root cause analysis

Integrate with CI/CD pipelines to enable automated testing, continuous integration, and continuous deployment of software applications

Identify, prioritize and execute tasks in the software development cycle. Participate in release and sprint planning, sprint and regression testing, and software releases

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related major is required

3+ years of hands‑on coding experience in Python

Experience with one or more distributed messaging platforms such as gRPC, ZeroMQ, MQTT, OMG DDS, Kafka, REST API

Familiarity with asynchronous communication patterns such as Publish/Subscribe

Experience with creating multi‑threaded and/or coroutine based applications

Experience with UNIX/Linux systems, including package management (Debian/Ubuntu preferred)

Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the ability to debug complex issues and propose effective solutions

Experience using software engineering tools including Github and JIRA

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following: C++ (C++17 preferred), C#, Java, Go.

Experience with full‑stack web application development, including back‑end, front‑end, and database technologies, such as Python Flask/FastAPI/aiohttp, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, React, MUI, and/or Redux Tool Kit.

Knowledge of Docker, including Docker based containers and Kubernetes based orchestration systems

Experience with Python multiprocessing, multithreading, asyncio

Experience with Linux services

The base salary range for this full‑time position is $130K to $150K. Our total compensation packages include base salary, bonus eligibility, and equity. Your base salary range and title will be determined based on the location, experience, qualification, skills, knowledge, level, and pay of employees in similar positions.
