Digital Ethics & Data Privacy Officer, Oncology Business Unit Join Takeda as the Digital Ethics & Data Privacy Officer at the Director level, supporting the Oncology Business Unit (OBU) and reporting directly to the Head of Ethics & Compliance, OBU. This strategic leadership role offers the opportunity to shape Takeda’s approach to responsible innovation at the intersection of ethics, technology, and oncology.

Responsibilities

Business partner to OBU DD&T and Insights & Analytics (I&A) teams, acting as ethics advisor concerning responsible use of digital technology and data.

Provide subject matter expertise across OBU on internal data acquisition, data management, and commercial reporting to ensure ethical implementation and compliance with Takeda privacy policies and applicable regulations; identify opportunities for E&C related insights in available data and systems.

Develop and deploy guidance, metrics and tools to support and monitor compliance with emerging technologies, privacy regulations, and internal standards in coordination with the global DE&C team.

Co‑create, leverage, and implement tools/resources from global DE&C to put in place processes and procedures for OBU that enable ethics and privacy by design across data acquisition, data management/reporting, data access, use of machine learning, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.

Evaluate and advise the OBU on digital ethics and privacy risks associated with new technologies, programs, and systems; support OBU with completion of Privacy Impact Assessments and remedial steps identified.

Support the global privacy office and OBU to ensure timely response to data subject requests and maintain compliance documentation.

Support dissemination and delivery of digital ethics and data privacy training initiatives at US OBU and global OBU levels.

Conduct E&C related vendor due diligent assessments for US‑OBU vendors and support the global privacy office on privacy issues identified with OBU vendors.

Analyze business impact of new rules or regulations affecting the US market and US OBU, coordinate joint effort and support response to regulator requests/inspections concerning digital and data privacy matters.

Support investigation of privacy incidents, reporting obligations and remediation efforts.

Represent the OBU in internal and external networks, committees and groups for benchmarking and to maintain and enhance required subject matter expertise.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in digital systems, data, law, business, or related data expertise area preferred.

Minimum of 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or other highly regulated industry with substantial experience partnering with Ethics & Compliance, Legal or other highly regulated functions.

Privacy certification(s) (IAPP‑CIPM/CIPT/CIPE or equivalent) is a plus.

Proven track record of project and process development, implementation, and management.

Strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to prioritize.

Team player with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills.

Strong ethical behavior, with the ability to remain impartial and report all non‑compliance; role model for Takeda values.

Skilled in influencing without authority, acting as lead business partner with diverse stakeholders in a cross‑functional capacity and achieving results in an international highly matrixed organization.

Leadership capabilities, including ability to interact with and advise senior business leaders & influence stakeholders and regulatory authorities.

Strong communication skills.

Ability to advise on risk‑based decisions involving reputational and financial risk and to act with a high degree of integrity and autonomy.

Curiosity, learning agility and interest in innovative ways of doing things.

Strong operations, process‑orientation, data analytics, or technical expertise to design, develop and implement privacy, compliance and relevant business processes, controls and workflows.

Working experience with agentic AI and its applicability to third‑party risk review activities.

Strong judgment and analytical skills in the assessment of ABAC risk review activities that can be transitioned to agentic AI.

Location & Compensation

Location: Boston, MA

Base salary: $174,500–$274,230 per year

U.S. employees may be eligible for short‑term and/or long‑term incentives, medical, dental, vision insurance, 401(k) plan with company match and other benefits.

Paid vacation: up to 120 hours; sick time: up to 80 hours per year.
