Ascensus
Position Summary
Serve as a resource to plan sponsors and financial advisors for matters related to ERISA compliance, plan design and governmental reporting. This person is the single point of contact for employer, financial profession and plan sponsor for their accounts. A Retirement Plan Consultant handles client meetings both in person and via phone. The role serves as the retirement plan expert on testing, 5500, loans and distributions and assists with plan design, operation and document updates.
Responsibilities
Provide timely, exceptional customer service, including problem solving and issue resolution with minimal inconvenience to clients.
Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Act as a mentor to Retirement Plan Coordinators, collaborating to meet or exceed defined business objectives.
Assist clients with all initial and ongoing plan design and document needs, including educating them on IRS and DoL regulations.
Ensure clients meet all IRS and Department of Labor deadlines for qualified retirement plans.
Assist clients with service and IRS plan terminations.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current ERISA legislation and proposed changes through self‑study and training.
Assist with payroll processing as required.
Accountable for valuation reports, participant statements and annual testing.
Review or perform required annual testing (ADP/ACP, Top Heavy, 410(b), 415, 401(a)(4), deductibility, 402(g)).
Coordinate with coordinators to produce compliant valuation reports, statements, trust accounting and testing.
Review distribution and loan paperwork and coordinate with asset holders.
Prepare and file Form 5500 timely.
Assist auditors for plan audits, IRS or DOL audits.
Coordinate conversions for new clients with actuaries, advisors, attorneys.
Oversee completion of book of business activities.
Assist with other tasks and projects as assigned.
Protect confidential data held by Ascensus.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
3–5+ years of ERISA experience in the retirement industry.
Experience analyzing financial data.
Experience with Relius software desirable.
Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Strong analytical problem‑solving mindset.
Detail oriented with ability to prioritize and manage tasks.
Ability to plan and assign work to qualified associates.
Salary and Benefits National average salary range: $80,000–$100,000 base pay (exclusive of bonuses and benefits). Actual salary offered will vary based on location, experience and performance.
