Title HVAC Mechanic/Technician – Journeyman
Job Summary The HVAC Mechanic Technician performs corrective and preventive maintenance of UMCS heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and associated equipment at Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC‑PAC).
Roles And Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance inspections, diagnostics, and corrective maintenance on heating hot water boilers, piping, pumps, air separators/expansion tanks, air handlers, fan coils, exhaust fans, cooling towers, air compressors, dampers, coils (HW, CW, DX), motors, control valves, pressure‑reducing valves, relief valves, and all other support systems as needed.
Replace piping systems; cut, bend, fabricate using steel, copper, PVC, and associated fittings specific to the type of pipe being used to connect new equipment installations and replacements.
Must be able to pass a customer pre‑employment background check for military base access.
Basic Qualifications
High school degree or equivalent. In lieu of diploma or equivalent, trade school certifications can be used for credit toward years of experience.
5 years’ experience with preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance of HVAC systems required.
Must have HVAC certification.
Must be either a member in good standing of UA Local Union 230 or willing to become a member.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience and certifications on Siemens Apogee controls preferred.
Preferred to have completed the 30‑hour OSHA Construction safety class or an equivalent 30‑hour formal construction safety and health training covering the subjects of the OSHA 30‑hour course.
Work Location Customer site, San Diego. No relocation funds available; must be in San Diego vicinity.
Basic Compensation $75,900 – $113,850. The salary range posted is for California locations. The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or experience, contract affordability, and in consideration of internal parity.
