PetSmart
About the Team
Vet Health Services (VHS) at PetSmart is leading the way in making veterinary care more accessible and impactful. Through our Independent Veterinary Operator (IVO) practices, the PetSmart Veterinary Services (PVS) franchise ownership model, partnerships with Banfield Pet Hospital, in-store vaccine and wellness clinics, and Access to Veterinary Care (AVC) initiatives supported by PetSmart Charities, VHS brings innovative veterinary solutions together under one roof to support pets, pet parents, and the professionals who care for them.
About the Location Onsite Position:
This position is considered to be fully onsite, work is to be done at a PetSmart location (Phoenix Home Office, PetSmart stores, Merchandise Development Center, Distribution Centers or another PetSmart site).
About the Job We’re looking for a skilled veterinarian who’s excited to deliver high-quality care and explore the next steps toward ownership. This unique role blends hands‑on medicine with leadership and operational influence, giving you the tools, mentorship, and support to lead the operation of a PetSmart Veterinary Services (PVS) hospital.
Why This Role Stands Out
Potential path to ownership with structured support and coaching
Competitive salary + leadership & management stipend + performance bonuses
Opportunity to build and cultivate a clinic culture where pets, clients, and the team thrive
A role where your voice matters—spanning both high-quality veterinary medicine and operational leadership, not simply another associate general practice position
What You’ll Do – Clinical Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive wellness care across life stages, with a focus on prevention and client education
Diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions in dogs, cats, and select exotics
Perform routine and advanced soft-tissue surgeries in a fully equipped suite
Deliver thorough dental care, including cleanings, radiographs, and extractions
Create and manage diagnostic and treatment plans using in-house labs and imaging
Build a caseload aligned with your interests—general practice, surgery, internal medicine, behavior, or others
Foster lasting client relationships through trust and clear communication
What You’ll Do – Leadership & Ownership Development
Lead and mentor the clinical team in partnership with Lead Tech on daily operations
Hire, coach, and develop team members to create a positive, inclusive culture
Collaborate on staffing, inventory, and marketing with support from the business team
Help ensure compliance with standards and operating policies for PVS hospitals
Review clinic performance metrics and receive guidance to grow as a business leader
Potentially transition into ownership through an independent franchise—with continued support
Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree from an accredited institution
Licensed (and in good standing) to practice veterinary medicine in the state of employment
Minimum of 3 years of experience in general practice, preventive care, or a community clinic setting preferred
Prior leadership or mentoring experience is a plus
Strong communication skills and a genuine passion for client education
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, retail-based clinic model
Comfortable using modern veterinary software and digital records systems
