Position Summary The Endoscopy Technician performs patient care and non‑patient care functions under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
Demonstrates/articulates an understanding of the responsibilities of the position.
Verbalizes and applies knowledge of current department and hospital Policies and Procedures.
Attends staff meetings or equivalent as requested/required to update knowledge related to current department/hospital issues.
Attends in‑services as required/requested to update knowledge.
Completes annual department/hospital competency requirements and documents appropriately on Competency/Education Record.
Able to prioritize workload.
Prioritizes, organizes and manages assignment within a normal work period.
Implements patient safety measures as needed (Risk fall program, etc.).
Responds appropriately in emergency patient situations.
Identifies malfunctioning equipment, tags and returns to appropriate department.
Escorts patient to procedure room and assists patient with changing into patient gown.
Places patient on procedure table connecting to monitoring equipment.
Assists with transport of patient to the recovery room.
Sets up procedure room and scopes after procedure.
Disinfects scopes and endoscopic instruments in procedure rooms.
Maintains clerical supplies for unit.
Stamps patient charts.
Assists with weekly storeroom and direct purchase order.
Restocks procedure rooms and recovery area.
Checks procedure and recovery rooms between cases and resupplies as necessary.
Actively participates in the Quality Improvement Program.
Escorts patients for discharge.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements High School Diploma/Equivalency
Preferred Prior Experience Previous experience in a hospital or patient care area preferred.
Core Competencies Ability to act in a professional capacity and serve as a role model. Communicates effectively in English. Must be congenial and pleasant. Has the ability to interact and communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Must be a team player.
Physical and Mental Demands
May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).
Must be physically able to transport heavy objects more than 50 lbs, and lift patients of all weights with a minimum of one assist or assistive device; perform difficult manipulative arm‑hand steadiness and hand‑eye coordination skills; walk and stand for a minimum of 3 hours. Must be physically able to meet all regulatory requirements 100% of the time.
Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with interruption and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time frequently. Must understand theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day constantly.
Must be able to detect objects closely and far away and hear normal sounds with some background noises; communicates effectively (verbally, written) in English 100% of the time.
